News The Musical of Musicals: The Musical Heads West for L.A. Debut The Musical of Musicals: The Musical will make its Los Angeles debut as part of the Colony Theatre Company's new season.

Original director Pamela Hunt again stages and choreographs the musical which begins Oct. 18 and opens Oct. 21 for a limited run at the Burbank, California stage through Nov. 19. Musical direction is by Jeffrey Rockwell.

Featuring music by Eric Rockwell, lyrics by Joanne Bogart and a book by Rockwell and Bogart, The Music of Musicals — The Musical! debuted at the York Theatre Company in New York and reopened at Off-Broadway's Dodger Stages before closing in November 2005. The show is a satire of various musical theatre genres. One story is played five times, each in the style of a different musical theatre composer or team, including Rodgers and Hammerstein, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Sondheim.

The original cast recording is available on the Jay Records label.

The cast includes local favorites Alli Mauzey (City of Angels, 110 in the Shade), Brent Schindele (And The Winner Is, Jesus Christ Superstar), Mary Gordon Murray (Little Me, The Spitfire Grill) and Jeffrey Rockwell (Gunmetal Blues, Billy Bishop Goes to War).

The Musical of Musicals: The Musical design team features James Morgan (set), Mary Jo Dondlinger (lighting), John Carver Sullivan (costumes) and Drew Dalzell (sound). There will be two talk-back sessions with the cast following performances on Oct. 27 and Nov. 9.
