Cohen and Robert Jess Roth, based on the film of the same name by Don Roos, will have its East Coast premiere Aug. 9-20 as part of the Williamstown Theatre Festival's 2006 season.

The show follows the conniving 16-year-old Dedee Truitt as she moves in with her now-wealthy, gay half-brother Bill and ends up pregnant by his new boyfriend Matt. Kerry Butler, of Hairspray and Little Shop of Horrors, is the devious Dedee. Gregg Edelman (Wonderful Town, 1776) will play the role of Bill. His boyfriend Matt is played by David Burtka.

Also in the cast are Kaitlin Hopkins as the sardonic Lucia, Ian Scott McGregor as Randy, Herndon Lackey as Carl Tippett, and Lance Rubin as Jason Bock.

Butler and Burtka repeat the roles they played in the San Francisco premiere.

The original film starred Christina Ricci as Dedee, Martin Donovan as Bill, Ivan Sergei as Matt, Lisa Kudrow as Lucia and Lyle Lovett as Carl.

Composer-lyricist Douglas J. Cohen's works include The Big Time, No Way to Treat a Lady, The Gig, Children's Letters to God, Barnstormer, Glimmerglass and Boozy.

Roth's credits include the direction of Beauty and the Beast and Lestat.
