PlayBlog The Orchid Show: On Broadway to Feature Theatre Designs, Hirschfeld Exhibit, Cabaret Performances The New York Botanical Garden will get a taste of Broadway March 5-April 25, when The Orchid Show: On Broadway exhibit takes the garden's stage.

Created by Tony Award-winning set designer Scott Pask and Drew Hodges, the CEO of the Broadway advertising agency SpotCo, the show features orchids displayed in the style of architectural elements of Broadway theatres, including the proscenium arch of the Walter Kerr Theatre, the promenade of the New Amsterdam Theatre and the chandelier of the 42nd Street Theatre.

A concurrent exhibition, Hirschfeld's Broadway Scrapbook, will feature caricatures by the legendary artist Al Hirschfeld, from his drawings of Anna Christie in 1921 to Hairspray in 2002. Theatre figures including Stephen Sondheim, Arthur Miller, George and Ira Gershwin, Neil Simon, Jerome Robbins, Carol Channing, Patti LuPone, Barbra Streisand and Julie Andrews will also appear in portraits in Hirschfeld's unique style. A selection of flower-filled Broadway shows, including House of Flowers, Desire Under the Elms and Into the Woods, will be highlighted.

Broadway cabaret performances will take place on weekends through the exhibition's run, and will cover popular music that came from Broadway musicals in half-hour sets. A list of performers has yet to be announced.

The New York Botanical Garden is located at Bronx River Parkway and Fordham Road. For more information, visit nybg.org.
