News The Phantom of the Opera Will Play Manila Andrew Lloyd Webber's international hit The Phantom of the Opera will begin a limited engagement in Manila Aug. 25 at the CCP Main Theatre, according to the Really Useful website.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning May 1.

James Cundall, CEO of Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, presenters of Phantom in Manila, said in a statement, “To bring the world’s most popular musical to such a musically-gifted nation as The Philippines has been a long-term dream. It is a superb show which epitomizes all that is great about musical theatre – unbelievable music, a powerfully moving story, lavish sets and costumes, and most importantly, superb audience entertainment. The Phantom of the Opera is a worldwide sensation which will take Philippine audiences on an unforgettable musical theatre journey.”

The Andrew Lloyd Webber-Charles Hart-Richard Stilgoe-written musical was directed in London and then on Broadway by Harold Prince.

The Phantom of the Opera, which won the 1988 Tony Award as Best Musical, became the longest-running show in Broadway history on Jan. 9, 2006, with its 7,486th performance (surpassing the previous record-holder, Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats, also produced by Cameron Mackintosh).
