James Cundall, CEO of Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, presenters of Phantom in Manila, said in a statement, “To bring the world’s most popular musical to such a musically-gifted nation as The Philippines has been a long-term dream. It is a superb show which epitomizes all that is great about musical theatre – unbelievable music, a powerfully moving story, lavish sets and costumes, and most importantly, superb audience entertainment. The Phantom of the Opera is a worldwide sensation which will take Philippine audiences on an unforgettable musical theatre journey.”
The Andrew Lloyd Webber-Charles Hart-Richard Stilgoe-written musical was directed in London and then on Broadway by Harold Prince.
The Phantom of the Opera, which won the 1988 Tony Award as Best Musical, became the longest-running show in Broadway history on Jan. 9, 2006, with its 7,486th performance (surpassing the previous record-holder, Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats, also produced by Cameron Mackintosh).
Since its debut on Broadway Jan. 26, 1988, the musical has grossed $845 million, making it the highest-grossing show in Broadway history. For tickets, visit https://www.ticketworld.com.ph.
