Garland, which was scheduled to play through June 4 at the Actors' Playhouse, will now close after the May 21 performance. The Billy Van Zandt work will have played 12 previews and 68 regular performances.
Garland began previews at the Actors' Playhouse March 13 and officially opened March 23. Glenn Casale directs a cast that also includes Kerby Joe Grubb.
The Property Known as Garland, according to press notes, is a "a fictional account of Judy backstage at her final concert appearance at Falkoner Center in Copenhagen in 1969."
The production's design team includes Charlie Smith (scenic design), Cynthia Nordstrom (costume design) and Richard Winkler (lighting design).
About the show, Barbeau recently told Playbill.com, "It's a two-character play. It takes place backstage the night of what turned out to be [Garland's] last performance at the Falkoner Center. She's getting ready to go on, and the young stage manager keeps coming in to try and make sure she's ready to go on. She's hesitant and starts telling stories to postpone having to go onstage, and it's a very witty play. It's sort of a love letter to her I think — a tribute to her, to her spirit and her survival instincts and her wit." Adrienne Barbeau appeared on the New York stage in Fiddler on the Roof and Grease, earning a Theatre World Award and a Tony nomination for her work in the latter. The actress received a Golden Globe Award nomination for her work in "Maude," and her many other screen credits include "Ghost Rock," "Ring of Darkness," "Carnivàle," "No Place Like Home," "Across the Line," "A Wake in Providence," "Silk Degrees," "Father Hood," "The Parsley Garden," "The Burden of P roof," "Doublecrossed," "The Easter Story," "Open House," "Back to School," "Bridge Across Time," "The Next One," "Swamp Thing," "Escape from New York," "The Cannonball Run," "Tourist," "The Fog," "Top of the Hill," "Crash," "Red Alert" and "The Great Houdini."
