News   The Return of Angel Reapers Begins Tonight Off-Broadway
Performances begin Feb. 2 at Off-Broadway Signature Theatre for the revival of Martha Clarke and Alfred Uhry's acclaimed Angel Reapers. The show, which debuted in 2011, incorporates traditional Shaker hymns, modern dance and actual Shaker movements.

Returning to perform in the revival are Sophie Bortolussi, Asli Bulbul, Lindsey Dietz Marchant, Gabrielle Malone and Andrew Robinson. Newcomers in the cast include Nicholas Bruder, Ingrid Kapteyn, Rico Lebron, Sally Murphy, Matthew Oaks, Andrew Robinson and yon tande.

Angel Reapers is directed and choreographed by Clarke with text by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Uhry. An official opening night is slated for Feb. 22. The engagement is scheduled to run through March 13 in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center.

"Angel Reapers captures the soul of the Shakers, an early American religious sect, which sought to connect with God through ecstatic ritual and strict celibacy," state Signature press notes. "While the congregants strive desperately to maintain divine purity, the needs of the flesh threaten to take hold." The theatre bills the show as a "wildly theatrical collage about the glorious love of the divine and the overwhelming desire for human connection."

The design team includes Marsha Ginsberg (scenic design), Donna Zakowska (costume design), Christopher Akerlind (lighting design), Samuel Crawford and Arthur Solari (sound design) and Solari (music direction). B. Bales Karlin is the production stage manager. Casting is by Telsey + Company, Tiffany Little Canfield, CSA.
