News The River, Starring Tony Winner Hugh Jackman, Will Open at Broadway's Circle in the Square This Fall Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman will return to Broadway in the new Jez Butterworth play The River, which will begin performances Oct. 31 at the Circle in the Square.

Sonia Friedman Productions presents the limited 13-week engagement that will officially open Nov. 16. Performances are currently scheduled through Jan. 25, 2015. The play had its premiere in 2012 at the Royal Court Theatre. Ian Rickson (Jerusalem), who helmed the London premiere of the play, will again direct.

Jackman (The Boy from Oz, A Steady Rain, "Les Misérables") will be joined by original London cast member Laura Donnelly and Cush Jumbo, who was seen in the all-female version of Julius Caesar at St. Ann's Warehouse last fall.

According to producers, "A remote cabin on the cliffs, a man and a woman, and a moonless night. Jez Butterworth’s The River asks when we find each other, are we trying to recapture someone we once lost? The writer director team who brought you Jerusalem returns with a bewitching new story."

The River will have production design by Ultz, with lighting by Charles Balfour, sound by Ian Dickinson for Autograph and music by Stephen Warbeck.

An on-sale ticket date will be announced shortly.
