Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre has revealed casting for the world-premiere musical Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion. Cortney Wolfson (Broadway’s Kinky Boots) and Stephanie Renee Wall (Disney’s Frozen Live) will co-star as the two best friends from high school.
The roles were created on screen by Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow in the 1997 cult classic.
Romy and Michele screenwriter Robin Schiff authored the book for the musical, which features music and lyrics by Orange Is the New Black songwriters Gwendolyn Sanford and Brandon Jay.
The show will be staged by Rock of Ages director Kristin Hanggi. Performances run June 8–July 2. Peggy Hickey has joined the creative team as the show's choreographer.
The plot centers on two single L.A. party girls in their late 20s who scramble to find boyfriends and cook up fabulous careers in time for their ten-year high school reunion—but not before they have a falling out over inventing Post-it notes. The characters are taken from the stage play Ladies Room, which also featured Kudrow.
Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
