Colbert, who previously appeared in the New York Philharmonic staging of Company and also welcomed Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim to his program, has admitted he is a fan of Broadway musicals.

Porgy and Bess has music by George Gershwin, lyrics by his brother Ira and a book and additional lyrics by DuBose Heyward. It is based on the play Porgy, by DuBose and Dorothy Heyward.
