News THE SCREENING ROOM: March the Band Out — Funny Girl Turns 50 (Video) Funny Girl opened on Broadway at The Winter Garden Theatre March 26, 1964, starring Barbra Streisand as the comedian and performer Fanny Brice.

Funny Girl went on to receive eight Tony Award nominations, including Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Composer and Lyricist and Best Musical. It was adapted into a motion picture in 1968, starring Streisand in an Academy Award-winning performance. 

The TV show "Glee" currently features Lea Michele's character, Rachel Berry, starring in a revival of Funny Girl on Broadway. "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy has purchased the rights to the musical, sparking rumors that Michele will star in a Broadway revival.
