Beyonce's "Halo" and Katrina and the Waves' "Walking on Sunshine": The girls' performance of "Halo" and "Walking on Sunshine" was one of the earliest "Glee" mashups. When Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) suggests a battle of the sexes, a mashup competition emerges. Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) and Mercedes Jones (Amber Riley) take lead vocals on the energy-infused performance.
Usher's "Confessions" and Jon Bon Jovi's "It's My Life": The boys, played by Cory Monteith, Harry Shum, Jr., Mark Salling, Chris Colfer and Kevin McHale, take on the mashup competition with a performance of the rock song "It's My Life" and the pop song "Confessions." Finn Hudson (Monteith) and the boys give the ladies a run for their money with their performance.
Jay-Z and Beyonce's "Crazy in Love" and the title song from Hair: "Crazy in Love" and "Hair" is one of the first "Glee" performances that fused a pop tune with a show tune. Artie (McHale) and Mercedes (Riley) took on the Jay-Z and Beyonce vocals, respectively, and the gleeks rocked out with Hair-inspired wigs. Although Schuester wasn't completely impressed, the mashup paved the way for more show tune and pop song combinations.
A Journey mashup of "Anyway You Want It" and "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'": Since the New Directions covered Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" in their very first episode, it was only right to include a Journey mashup for their first trip to regionals. The episode, "Journey to Regionals," was also the series' first season finale.
Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand's "Happy Days Are Here Again / Get Happy": Kurt (Colfer) and Rachel (Michele) took on the Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand classic. Need we say more?
The Rolling Stones' "Start Me Up" and Bon Jovi's "Livin' On A Prayer": In season two, the boys and the girls had another mashup face-off. This time, the girls covered male songs and the boys covered female songs. Here, the girls decided to put on their leather jackets and cover rock songs by the Stones and Bon Jovi.
The Supremes' "Stop! In the Name of Love" and En Vogue's "Free Your Mind": The boys mixed a Motown tune of the Supremes with En Vogue's R&B song "Free Your Mind" for the mashup challenge. After the boys offended Coach Beiste (Dot Marie Jones), they invited her to the competition and dedicated the mashup performance to her.
The title song from Singin' in the Rain and Rihanna's "Umbrella": The mashup performance of "Singin' in the Rain" and "Umbrella," which featured Morrison and "Glee" guest star Gwyneth Paltrow, was an ideal combination—not to mention the staged rainstorm in the McKinley High auditorium.
"I Feel Pretty" from West Side Story and "Unpretty" by TLC: The mashup—another ideal fusion of show tune and pop song—is covered by Rachel (Michele) and Quinn (Dianna Agron). Although Rachel and Quinn seem to be worlds apart, the performance showed that they are more similar than they think.
Adele's "Rumor Has It" and "Someone Like You": With Adele topping the charts, the gleeks had to cover her two latest hits—"Rumor Has It" and "Someone Like You." Santana (Naya Rivera) and Mercedes (Riley) took lead vocals on the mashup—one of the first Trouble Tones performances.
