On DioGuardi's "True Hollywood Story," according to E!, the performer "opens up about her long journey towards success. Helping to tell her story are her husband, Mike McCuddy, her brother, John, her closest friends, professional colleagues including music industry legend Tommy Mottola and 'American Idol' executive producer Ken Warwick, and some of the artists for whom she has written hit songs including Kelly Clarkson, Jason DeRulo, Dave Stewart and Colbie Caillat."

"True Hollywood Story: Kara DioGuardi" will be rebroadcast Oct. 29 at 10 PM and Oct. 30 at 7 PM. Here are some clips from the special in which DioGuardi talks about her childhood struggles and how she broke into the music industry.

DioGuardi, who made her Broadway debut in the Tony Award-winning revival of Chicago, will continue her run as Roxie Hart through Oct. 30. DioGuardi is a former "American Idol" judge, Grammy-nominated songwriter and star of Bravo's "Platinum Hit."
