The production invited fans of the musical to vote on their favorite song from the show, which was performed immediately following the Oct. 30 matinee. "Defying Gravity" was chosen as the fan-favorite and was broadcast via Facebook for Wicked fans across the globe.
In addition to the Wicked cast, Schwartz, the show's composer, made a special appearance at the "Defying Gravity" encore to sing alongside the Wicked stars.
Adapted from the novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked delves into the back story of the iconic characters from Oz. The musical has a score by Schwartz, a book by Holzman, direction by Joe Mantello and musical staging by Wayne Cilento.
Wicked won Tony Awards for Costume Design, Scenic Design and Best Actress in a Musical (Idina Menzel). It was nominated as Best Musical.
