Irish Repertory Theatre celebrates the Off-Broadway opening of Conor McPherson’s The Seafarer April 18. The production, which was recently extended through May 24, stars two-time Tony winner Matthew Broderick.
The Seafarer began performances March 30. Ciarán O’Reilly directs a cast completed by Colin McPhillamy as Richard, Michael Mellamphy as Ivan, Andy Murray as Sharky, and Tim Ruddy as Nicky. Broderick plays the role of Lockhart.
The Seafarer is about a group of old friends who gather one Christmas Eve in Dublin for a poker game when a mysterious stranger arrives and raises the stakes. The play premiered in 2006 at London's Royal National Theatre before opening on Broadway the following year.
The limited engagement features sets by Charlie Corcoran, lighting design by Brian Nason, costumes by Martha Hally, and sound design by M. Florian Staab and Ryan Rumery. Original music is by Rumery.
