The production is staged in the Irving Arts Center's Carpenter Performance Hall through Sept. 15.

Directed by Cheryl Denson, the cast features Christopher Carl as Captain Von Trapp, Bri Sudia as Maria, Christopher Curtis as Max, Janelle Lutz as Elsa, Jodi Wright as the Mother Abbess, Emily McIntyre as Liesl and Johnny Lee as Rolf.

The adult ensemble includes Carlee Cagle, Dana Taylor, Delynda Moravec, Emily Ford, James Williams, Jessica Lemmons, Kimberly Smith, Laura Lites, Lucia Welch, Mark Hawkins, Mark Oristano, Monica Music, Noelle Chesney, Rebekah Ankrom and Sarah Powell. The von Trapp children are played by Emily McIntyre, Colin G. Beaton, Emma Colwell, Hunter Hall, Hayley Lenamon, Sarah Youngblood and Mimi Barrus. 

"When a postulant proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain," press notes state. "Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain's immediate service in their navy."

Lyric Stage's production features Trude Rittman's vocal arrangements and Robert Russell Bennett's orchestrations played by Lyric Stage's 34-piece acoustic orchestra. Jay Dias conducts and provides musical direction. Suggested by the book "The Trapp Family Singers," by Maria Augusta TrappThe Sound of Music features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse.

The creative team includes Ann Nieman (choreography), Jane Quetin (properties), Bill Eickenloff (sound), Julie Simmons (lighting), Jeffrey Meek (costumes) and James Fouchard (sets). Production stage manger is Margaret J. Soch.
