News "The Sterile Cuckoo," Starring Liza Minnelli, Will Be Released on DVD in October "The Sterile Cuckoo," which stars award-winning singer-actress Liza Minnelli, will be released on DVD and Blu-ray for the first time Oct. 16 by Olive Films.

Alan J. Pakula's directorial debut stars Minnelli as Pookie Adams, "a relentlessly kooky coed who falls in love with a reserved young college student, Jerry Payne (Wendell Burton). She actively pursues the shy boyish-man and helps him through the tough first months in school. They both benefit from the relationship; he gains self-confidence and she’s now able to come to grips with her unhappy home life, but sadly he gradually outgrows her," according to press notes.

The film received two Academy Award nominations, one for Minnelli (Best Actress) and one for Fred Karlin and Dory Previn for their song, “Come Saturday Morning."

The 1969 film, which is rated PG, runs 107 minutes. The DVD/Blu-ray has been remastered in HD from an archival 35mm print.
