In William Shakespeare's The Tempest, Plummer plays Propspero, a Duke banished from his homeland, who lives on an island with his daughter Miranda (Trish Lindstrom). With the assistance of the spirit Ariel (Julyana Soelistyo), he raises a storm at sea, bringing within his grasp the enemies who robbed him of his dukedom.

Plummer is the winner of an Academy Award, two Emmy Awards, two Tony Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a SAG Award and a BAFTA Award. His stage credits include Cyrano, Barrymore, Inherit the Wind, King Lear, No Man's Land and The Good Doctor. His film work includes "The Sound of Music," "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" and "A Beautiful Mind."

His one-man show A Word or Two played the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, CA; he also portrayed James Tyrone from Long Day's Journey Into Night for a PBS American Masters documentary of Eugene O'Neill.

The Stratford Festival has brought classical and contemporary theatre alive for over 60 years, annually presenting a dozen plays in four theatres between April and November, in the Canadian city of Stratford, Ontario.
