Three Broadway shows — The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Gathering and Judgment at Nuremberg — will give their last performance on May 13. All three are victims of too little attention from the Tony Award nominating committee: Tom Sawyer and Nuremberg only received two minor nominations apiece, while The Gathering garnered no nominations at all.

Judgment at Nuremberg will close after 45 previews and 56 performances. The National Actors Theatre production of the Abby Mann drama was cited for the work of featured actor Michael Hayden and featured actress Marthe Keller, but not recognized for the performances of veterans Maximilian Schell and George Grizzard, and passed over for a best play nom.

Nuremberg had earlier picked up Outer Critics Circle Award nominations for Best Play, Actor (George Grizzard), Director (John Tillinger) and Featured Actress (Marthe Keller). Keller and Schell has also received Drama Desk nominations.

Judgment at Nuremberg isn't the only post-Holocaust drama ending its run this Mother's Day. Arje Shaw's The Gathering, starring Hal Linden, will have played 12 previews and 24 regular performances. Set in 1985, The Gathering, a comedic family drama, explores the conflicts between grandfather, father and son which arise over the dinner table when they discuss President Ronald Reagan's planned visit to Bitburg, site of burial grounds for Nazi soldiers.

The musical The Adventures of Tom Sawyer will close with the matinee performance on May 13 after playing 34 previews and 21 regular performances. The show opened on April 26 following an engagement at the Shubert Theater in New Haven, Conn. The Don Schlitz-Ken Ludwig musical received only mixed reviews, though it was widely regarded as a good children’s show. Tom Sawyer earned two Tony nominations in production categories but did not get a Best Musical nod.
