The Verdict   The Verdict: What Did Critics Think of John Patrick Shanley's Prodigal Son? The world premiere of John Patrick Shanley's Prodigal Son officially opened Feb. 9 at Manhattan Theatre Club Off-Broadway. "Interstellar" actor Timothée Chalamet stars as the brilliant but volatile 15-year-old Jim Quinn, a teenager from the Bronx who is offered a scholarship at a private school in New Hampshire.

Chalamet is featured alongside Tony winner Robert Sean Leonard (The Invention of Love, Long Day's Journey Into Night), Annika Boras (Chair, An Oresteia), Chris McGarry (Defiance, Doubt) and David Potters. Previews began Jan. 19.

Written and directed by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Shanley, the play portrays a young man who is gifted, violent and, like many teenagers, incredibly angst-ridden. His teachers are torn between supporting or disciplining him.

The critics are filing their reviews, and Playbill.com will continue to update them for our readers.
