News   The Very MARY Holiday Benefit Honors Laura Benanti Nov. 29 Tony Award winner Laura Benanti, currently appearing on Broadway in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, is this year's Broadway Speaks OUT! Hero Award Honoree at The Very MARY Holiday benefit, which is being held Nov. 29 at 8 PM at Dixon Place.

The event raises funds and awareness for The Ali Forney Center, which supports and advocates for homeless gay youth. (Benanti replaced the previously announced Judith Light, who had to withdraw due to a scheduling conflict.)

Broadway Speaks OUT! (BSO) co-founder Marti Gould Cummings hosts the evening, which is set to feature the talents of Kate Shindle, John Arthur Greene and Matt Doyle as well as Danny Calvert and the Broadway Boys, Jack Mackenroth, Matt Shingledecker, Annie Golden, Michelle Dowdy, Brian Charles Rooney, Tracy McDowell, Malan Breton, Chase Davidson, Krystina Alabado, Scott Nevins, Kate Pazakis, Megan Reinking, Alex Ellis, Taylor Mac, Marcus Simione, composer Scott Alan, The Broadway Dolls, Ryan Nickulas, TJ Kelly and Orfeh. Other Broadway stars will contribute filmed messages, and civil rights activist David Mixner will serve as the night's keynote speaker.

Drexel D. Heard directs the event with Kristen Lee Rosenfield serving as music director. Brad Gardner  is the music director.

Benanti, a Tony Award winner for Gypsy, has also appeared on Broadway in In the Next Room, The Wedding Singer, Nine, Into the Woods, Swing! and The Sound of Music, and Off-Broadway in Why Torture Is Wrong, among other credits.
