News   The Visit Star Will Be Out "For a Number of Performances"

Roger Rees, who stars as Anton Schell — the former lover of Claire Zachanassian, played by Chita Rivera — in The Visit, will be out from the Kander and Ebb musical "for a number of performances," Playbill.com has learned.

Rees has been out of the musical in recent days, and a press representative for the musical told Playbill.com that he "has not left The Visit," but that "Tom [Nelis] will be performing the role of Anton for a number of performances."

Details of Rees' absence from the musical (or an expected return date) have not been shared.

Based on Friedrich Dürrenmatt's 1956 play, The Visit has a score by Tony Award-winning Cabaret, Chicago and Kiss of the Spider Woman collaborators John Kander (music) and the late Fred Ebb (lyrics). The musical features a book by Tony Award-winning playwright Terrence McNally (Kiss of the Spider Woman, Master Class, It's Only a Play).

The cast features Rivera as Claire Zachanassian and Rees as Anton Schell. They are joined by George Abud as Karl, Jason Danieley as Frederich Kuhn, Matthew Deming as Louis Perch, Diana Dimarzio as Annie Dummermut, Tony nominee David Garrison as Peter Dummermut, Rick Holmes as Father Josef, Tom Nelis as Rudi, Chris Newcomer as Jacob Chicken, Mary Beth Peil as Matilde Schell, Aaron Ramey as Otto Hahnke, Elena Shaddow as Ottilie, Timothy Shew as Hans Nusselin, with John Riddle and Michelle Veintimilla.

A cast album of the Kander and Ebb musical will be released June 26 from Broadway Records and Yellow Sound Label. It will be produced by Michael Croiter and co-executive produced by Hunter Arnold, Carl Daikeler and Sandi Moran. It can be pre-ordered here.
