Atlantic Theater Company has announced casting for the world-premiere production of The Penitent by acclaimed playwright David Mamet. The new play will be directed by artistic director Neil Pepe, with previews set to begin February 8, 2017.
The Penitent will feature Lawrence Gilliard Jr. (The Walking Dead, The Machinist, The Wire) and Atlantic Theater Company ensemble members Chris Bauer (True Blood, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Wire), Jordan Lage (Glengarry Glen Ross, Speed-the-Plow, Race), and Rebecca Pidgeon (The Spanish Prisoner, The Old Neighborhood).
In Pulitzer Prize winner Mamet’s newest work, a renowned psychiatrist, played by Bauer, is asked to testify on behalf of a young patient. When he refuses, his career, ethics, and faith are thrown into question. The production will officially open February 27 and play a limited engagement through March 19 at the Linda Gross Theater.
The Penitent will feature scenic design by Tim Mackabee, costume design by Laura Bauer, lighting design by Don Holder, and casting by Telsey + Company.
