News "The Way He Was": Estate of Arthur Laurents Will Be Auctioned "The Way He Was," items from the estate of late Tony Award-winning playwright and director Arthur Laurents, will be publicly auctioned through Roland Auctions of New York City in early June.

Best known for penning the books to West Side Story, Gypsy and the screenplay to "The Way We Were," Laurents died at the age of 93 in May 2011.

Among the theatre memorabilia to be auctioned are engraved silver and crystal gifts from cast members and celebrities, as well as awards Laurents earned. Design sketches by Theoni Aldredge and Irene Sharaff, as well as set designs from Laurents' productions are also part of the estate.

American furniture and fine art from Laurents' West Village brownstone will also be auctioned.

The Estate of Arthur Laurents will be on view May 30-June 1 from 10 AM-7 PM at Roland Auctions, located at 80 East 11th Street. The auction will take place June 2 at 11 AM.
