Matthew Martin and Tim Realbuto, the writing team behind Ghostlight, have teamed up to co-write the play The Weak Ones, which will receive a full workshop production at the TADA! Theatre March 18.
Inspired by true events, the story follows the relationship between a self-confessed murderer and the lawyer who must defend her. Featured in the cast is Hamilton star Ariana DeBose, who provides the voice of the 911 operator.
The cast also includes Realbuto, Abigail Ludrof, Cathy Salvodon, Rob Ventre, Paul Thomas Ryan, Kyle Doherty and Drew Powell. Martin directs.
Here’s how production notes bill the new play: “On the brink of a highly publicized case George Taylor, a single father struggling to balance work and family after an unspeakable tragedy, must defend self-confessed murderer Samantha Barrish, a woman society has deemed a monster. But might there be two sides to every story? Inspired by true events, The Weak Ones examines the balance struck when two seemingly different people are both out of options.”
The workshop presentation is part of the Emerging Artists New Work Series. Tickets are from $10 and can be purchased by visiting brownpapertickets.com/event/2503464. TADA! is located at 15 West 28th Street, Manhattan. Industry people looking to attend the production can contact TheWeakOnesPlay@gmail.com.
