Sutton Foster (a two-time Tony winner herself) and "Modern Family" star Jesse Tyler Ferguson will announce the nominees culled from the 2012-13 season on Broadway. This season was star-studded (i.e. Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Alec Baldwin, Al Pacino), with some big commercial successes (i.e. Matilda, Motown), moments of artistic brilliance (i.e. Pippin, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?), some critical and commercial disappointments (i.e. Scandalous, Dead Accounts), and lots of unique solo stints (Mike Tyson, Bette Midler, Alan Cumming, Fiona Shaw). The epic tale begins at the end of World War II in a war-torn Soviet Union, where a young Russian maid (Tony nominee Elizabeth A. Davis, of Once) finds herself the caretaker of an abandoned infant and on the run through the Caucasus Mountains, where a singing raconteur and his band of musicians (Lloyd) tells us of the years-long fate that awaits our heroine and the lost child. Also stars Mary Testa, Jason Babinsky and Alex Hurt. Officially opens May 30. (Classic Stage Company, 136 E. 13th St., off 3rd Ave. Info/tickets.)
