The two-hander, which first debuted on Broadway in 1989, follows a pair of pen pals from childhood to their golden years via their letters. OPENING→ Acclaimed and controversial monologist Mike Daisey makes his first post-Agony and the Ecstasy appearance at the Public Theater with a series of six new works. For the uninitiated (or those who don't have the internet), last March, Daisey was lambasted in the media after portions of his hit show, The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs, were found to be fabricated. Public Theater artistic director Oskar Eustis says of his decision to bring Daisey back to the Public: "Mike Daisey is an important voice in the American theatre and a vital member of The Public Theater's family. I am very happy to be welcoming him back to the Public with this exciting and surprising set of performances." The series of six shows will continue to roll out into the New Year. (Joe's Pub, 9:30 PM, 425 Lafayette St, info/tickets.)

PREVIEWS→ Henry Winkler stars as a Ron Jeremy(!)-type in a new comedy by David West Read called The Performers (yes, that kind of performer). Winkler's character, Chuck Wood, meets up with newbies in the biz (Cheyenne Jackson and Ari Graynor) and a pair of wide-eyed out-of-towners (Alicia Silverstone and Daniel Breaker) during the Adult Film Awards in Las Vegas. For the record, I giggled typing this entire listing, so it's a "see it" in my book! Officially opens Nov. 14. (Longacre Theatre, 220 W. 48th St, btwn. Broadway & 8th Ave., Click here for Playbill Club discount preview tickets.)

Wednesday, October 24
GO→ Prior to her turn as Fantine in the Les Misérables film, Anne Hathaway will make her cabaret debut in Perfectly Marvelous. Tony winner Ted Sperling directs the one-night-only concert that will feature the Academy Award nominee singing, with some surprise guests, songs from the Kander and Ebb classic Cabaret. (Joe's Pub, 425 Lafayette St., info/tickets.)

Thursday, October 25
PREVIEWS→ Sigourney Weaver and David Hyde Pierce star in Christopher Durang's ode to Chekhov, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, directed by Nicholas Martin. The comedy parodies Chekhov's epic dramas (The Cherry Orchard, The Seagull, Three Sisters, etc.), mashes them up, and sets them in present-day Pennsylvania. Officially opens Nov. 12. (Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater, 150 W. 65th St., btwn. Broadway & Amsterdam, info/tickets.)

OPENING→ Karen Allen stars in the premiere of Norwegian scribe Jon Fosse's A Summer Day. The drama involves the reuniting of old friends in two different time periods and the many things thrown in their paths — affairs, time passing and loss. (Through Nov. 25, Cherry Lane Theatre, 38 Commerce St., off Bleecker St. Click here for Playbill Club discount tickets.)

Friday, October 26
PREVIEWS→ The latest play featuring Eve Ensler's righteous combination of art and activism, Emotional Creature, makes its New York premiere Off-Broadway. The young ensemble of six comprises Ashley Bryant, Molly Carden, Emily S. Grosland, Joaquina Kalukango, Sade Namei and Olivia Oguma. Officially opens Nov. 12. (Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center, 480 W. 42nd Street, btwn. 9th & 10th Aves. Click here for Playbill club discount preview tickets.)
