LAST CHANCE→ After 900+ performances as Broadway’s original Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Reeve Carney will take his last flight in the multi-million dollar spectacular, Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark. The production, famously featuring the music of U2’s Bono and The Edge, cast a wide net… er “web”… in search of a replacement for Carney in the form of coast-to-coast open casting calls earlier this year. OPENING→ The splashy and ultimately tragic life of stripper-turned-megastar Anna Nicole Smith is explored in the unique new opera, Anna Nicole, by Mark-Anthony Turnage and Richard Thomas. Mary Testa, James Barbour and Sarah Joy Miller star in the production. Thomas is no stranger to turning mayhem into music, having penned the British musical Jerry Springer: The Opera. PREVIEWS→ “The Sopranos” star Joe Pantoliano stars as Yogi Berra in Bronx Bombers. The new drama from Lombardi and Magic/Bird scribe Eric Simonson examines the Yankees through the stories of its famous players like Berra, Derek Jeter (Christopher Jackson), Joe DiMaggio (Chris Henry Coffey), Mickey Mantle (Bill Dawes) and Lou Gehrig (John Wernke). OPENING→ Hollywood hunk Orlando Bloom stars as Romeo in Broadway’s newest incarnation of Shakespeare’s famous tragedy Romeo and Juliet. Playing “the sun” to Bloom’s “fair Romeo” is Condola Rashad, a bright new leading lady on Broadway, having earned Tony nods her last two times on the Boards. GO→ Sutton Foster has returned to the stage at the Café Carlyle for a bares-her-soul performance that finds the two-time Tony winner taking on songs about love (“Warm All Over,” “Nearness of You”), love lost (“My Heart Was Set On You,” “Lies of Handsome Men”) and general quirkiness (“Good Old Desk,” “Air Conditioner”).
