News "Theater Talk" Examines South Pacific, Then and Now, Aug. 15 The Aug. 15 broadcast of "Theater Talk" — the PBS talk show that offers interviews with top theatre practitioners — will pay tribute to the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific, which is currently enjoying a new, Tony-winning life at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theater.

The 30-minute program presents an encore broadcast of its recent interview with South Pacific director Bartlett Sher, who won a 2008 Tony Award for his staging of the hit musical. Sher, according to press notes, discusses "the influences that shaped his interpretation of the classic show, including Josh Logan, who directed the original Broadway production almost sixty years ago." The Aug. 15 "Theater Talk" will also include a vintage 1999 segment that celebrated South Pacific's 50th anniversary. Among those interviewed are original SP actor Don Fellows and Ted Chapin, president of The Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization.

"Theater Talk" airs on WNET/Thirteen late-night Friday, Aug. 15 at 12:30 AM ET. Repeat broadcasts are scheduled for CUNY TV Aug. 23 at 8:30 PM, Aug. 24 at 12:30 PM, Aug. 25 at 7:30 AM, 1:30 PM and 7:30 PM.
