News TheaterWorks Adds Performance to Hartford Run of Driving Miss Daisy Hartford's TheaterWorks has added an extra performance to its current run of Alfred Uhry's Driving Miss Daisy starring Rosemary Prinz.

TheaterWorks' associate artistic director Rob Ruggiero staged the Pulitzer Prize winning drama for the Connecticut company. Performances began Aug. 31 and the show opened Sept. 7 for a run through Oct. 14. The additional show will play Oct. 14 at 7:30 PM.

"After she crashes her car, Daisy Werthan's son Boolie gets her a new car…and a driver," press notes state. "Resolutely opposed to the idea, the strong-willed Daisy refuses to warm up to the affable Hoke, her new chauffeur. Over the course of 25 years, a surprising kinship develops between this Jewish schoolteacher and the African-American man hired to drive Miss Daisy."

The work earned Uhry the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1987 following its Off-Broadway debut. He then adapted the work for the film, which garnered the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Screenplay in 1989.

TheaterWorks veteran Prinz (Master Class, Kimberly Akimbo and Last Lists of My Mad Mother) will take on the role of Daisy opposite Mel Johnson, Jr. (Hot Feet, The Lion King and The Rink) as Hoke. John Leonard Thompson (Butley, Sin) will appear as son Boolie.

Prinz appeared on "As the World Turns" and "All My Children." Her stage work also includes The Prisoner of Second Avenue, Tribute, Steel Magnolias and Killing Louise. She has previously played the role of Daisy Werthan on a national tour. Uhry also penned the Tony Award-winning play The Last Night of Ballyhoo and the Tony-winning book for the musical Parade. Book writer for the recent Kurt Weill-Lotte Lenya Broadway bio-musical LoveMusik, his other works include Edgardo Mine and the screenplay for "Mystic Pizza."

The design team for Driving Miss Daisy includes Luke Hegel-Cantarella (sets), Anne Kenney (costumes), Matthew Richards (lights), Vincent Oliveri (sound and original music) and Charles G. Lapointe (wigs). Production manager is Michael Lenaghan.
