News Theatreworks Adds CA Debut of Ambition Facing West To Complete Season The California premiere of Anthony Clarvoe's Ambition Facing West will fill the final slot in TheatreWorks' upcoming season.

The 37th season for the Palo Alto, California company will be performed at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts and at the Lucie Stern Theatre.

Bay Area-born playwright Clarvoe (Ctrl+Alt+Del, Pick Up Ax, The Living) pens an "adaptation of his own family history" in the Elliot Norton Award winner for Outstanding New Play (for the Trinity Repertory Company and the Bloomsburg Theater Ensemble production). The work, according to production notes "spans the globe and the better part of the 20th Century, chronicling a family's migration from Eastern Europe to the United States and beyond."

The world premiere of the musical Vanities will launch the upcoming TheatreWorks season which also includes Dessa Rose, The Learned Ladies of Park Avenue, Brooklyn Boy, Trying and revivals of Follies and M Butterfly.

The 2006-2007 season (subject to change) is scheduled as follows:

  • Brooklyn Boy (July 19-Aug. 13)
  • M Butterfly (Aug. 23-Sept. 17)
  • Dessa Rose (October 4-29)
  • The Learned Ladies of Park Avenue (Nov. 29-Dec. 23)
  • Ambition Facing West (Jan. 17-Feb. 11, 2007)
  • Trying (March 7-April 1, 2007)
  • Follies (April 4-29, 2007)
