News TheatreWorks' Big River to Star Alex Goley and James Monroe Iglehart Alex Goley and James Monroe Iglehart will co-star in the TheatreWorks production of Big River, the Tony Award-winning country musical based on Mark Twain's classic "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" — which will begin performances Nov. 28 in Palo Alto.

TheatreWorks founding artistic director Robert Kelley will stage the production that officially opens Dec. 1 for a run through Dec. 30 at the Lucie Stern Theatre. It will have musical direction by William Liberatore.

Big River has a book by William Hauptman and music and lyrics by Roger Miller. The 1985 Broadway production won seven Tony Awards including Best Musical.

Goley will portray Huck Finn, with Iglehart (Memphis, Aladdin) as Jim. The cast also features Scott Reardon as Tom Sawyer, Lucinda Hitchcock Cone as Widow Douglas and Alison Ewing (Cabaret, Mamma Mia!) as Miss Watson.

Completing the cast are Matt Henerson, Martin Rojas Dietrich, Jackson Davis, Jesse Caldwell, Matt Provencal, Cyril Jamal Cooper, Katie Jane Martin, Breena Wahl, Dawn L. Troupe and Tracy Camp.

Big River will have scenic design by Joe Ragey, costume design by B Modern, lighting design by Pamila Z. Gray and sound design by Jeff Mockus. According to TheatreWorks, "Hilarious and heartwarming, Mark Twain's story 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' comes alive in this enchanting musical adaptation. In this joyously tuneful journey, runaways Huck and Jim sweep down the mighty Mississippi, discovering a friendship that defies convention and defines the American dream... This uproarious tale chronicles our heritage in a buoyant and unforgettable journey."
