"I loved this film and was nervous about it being made into a musical. The creative team and cast made it its own unique animal and a phenomenal piece of ensemble theatre."

Sweeney Todd (original production)

"Saw this with David Goldsmith (now represented on Broadway as Script Consultant on Motown) when we were both in high school. This was definitely a form of higher education. Len Cariou, Angela Lansbury, Hal Prince, Stephen Sondheim. What else is there to say?"

 The Book of Mormon

"I really couldn’t believe this show could be so mind-blowingly funny and smart. I laughed so hard during Two by Two and Joseph Smith American Moses I thought I might pass out. And now I play Joseph Smith 8 times a week! Lucky and grateful..."

The Phantom of the Opera (recording performance - Sandra Joseph and Howard McGillin)

"The night Phantom became the longest-running show, my wife (Sandra Joseph) and Howard McGillin, in front of an audience that included Broadway royalty and practically every actor who had ever played their roles before them (I played the Phantom on the 1st National tour), gave simply spectacular performances! I was always moved by the depth of emotion Sandra brought to her role, perhaps that’s why she became Broadway’s longest-running Christine."

 Equus (original production)

"I saw this on one of my first trips to NYC from Cincinnati; Leonard Nimoy was the star. This show taught me a ton about the power of theatre and a production’s greatest asset – the audiences’ imagination."

Les Miserables (Final performance, original production)

"I played Enjolras for two-and-a-half years at the Imperial before leaving to play Joe Gillis on the Sunset Boulevard tour. For the final performance, Cameron Macintosh invited everyone who’d appeared in the production over its original 16-year Broadway run to attend and participate in the finale. It was an amazing confluence of theatre, history, great friends and great farewell performances."

Rocky

"Saw it in previews. They were still working on the show, and there was some unevenness there, but what Andy Karl and Terence Archie (my buddy from the Ragtime revival) and the creative team achieved in the last 30 minutes of that show needs to be seen by everyone on the planet. It is a thrilling theatrical achievement.'"

The Mystery of Edwin Drood (original production)

"Howard McGillin as Jasper — Howard was just brilliant. Funny, scary and what a voice. He became my idol. I was even eventually offered the role of his understudy! Unfortunately, the offer came the same week they posted their closing notice, so I never got to do it. Such a fun, old-fashioned musical with a great twist."

M. Butterfly

"I’m a huge John Lithgow fan, and I had the pleasure of seeing this in previews without knowing a thing about the story. So the great reveal of the piece was a complete surprise and therefore one of my favorite audience moments in the theatre. Rightly so, this performance made B.D. Wong a star."

Sunday in the Park with George (original production)

"When I moved to NYC, standing room was only 10 bucks, about the same as a movie. I loved this show so much I must have seen it at least 12 times, all standing room. There was no greater honor for me to get to play George recently for the Rep of St. Louis, a lifelong dream fulfilled."
