News There Is No God: Off-Broadway St. Germain Play to Close April 16 The God Committee, Mark St. Germain's new play about how life-and-death transplant decisions are made in the medical community, will close on April 16. It opened Off-Broadway on March 29 at The Lamb's Theatre, after previews from March 11.

It will have played 43 performances in total (22 previews and 21 post-opening performances).

Larry Keith (Caroline, or Change), Michael Mulheren (Kiss Me, Kate) and Ron Orbach (Laughter on the 23rd Floor) star in the drama, directed by Trinity Rep's Kevin Moriarty. Also in the cast are Maha Chehlaoui, Peter Jay Fernandez, Amy van Nostrand and Brenda Thomas.

The set design is by Beowulf Borritt, lighting design by Tyler Micoleau, and costume design by David Murin.

The world premiere of The God Committee came on July 22, 2004, at the Barrington Stage Company in Sheffield, MA. Orbach and Van Nostrand were in that production.

St. Germain penned BSC's world premiere, Ears on a Beatle, that would go on to an Off-Broadway run. In his new drama, a hospital transplant selection committee meets to decide who will be selected for a heart that has become available. "I became interested in transplants when a friend's father found himself in need of one," St. Germain said in a statement. "With the desperate shortage of organs, I wondered how the selection process worked and how difficult these decisions must be. The more I learned, the more I realized that every doctor selection meeting was a drama of its own where final decisions could not possibly be based entirely on science, facts and figures."

St. Germain's works includes Camping With Henry and Tom, Out of Gas on Lover's Leap and Forgiving Typhoid Mary (later revised as A Plague of Angels).

With Randy Courts, he has written the musicals The Gifts of the Magi for Lamb's Theater in New York City, Johnny Pye and the Foolkiller (winner of AT&T's New Plays for the Nineties Award) and Jack's Holiday at Playwrights Horizons.

Tickets are $45-$55 and are available at Telecharge.com, (212) 239-6200.
