Rebeck, the creator of "Smash," was last represented on Broadway with Dead Accounts. Her new play will premiere Feb. 21-March 16, 2014, at the Alley. A director and cast have not been announced.
Fool replaces the previously announced production of Never The Sinner, which will be seen in a future season.
The Alley has also announced that Christopher Durang's Tony Award-winning comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike has been added to the 2013-2014 season. It will be presented May 23 to June 15, 2014.
According to the Alley, "In Rebeck's new comedy, two kings get together and place a wager on their fools – a jester competition, and the funniest one gets to keep his head. Two evil minions have a lot to say about this, but not as much as the kitchen wench. And what's the queen been up to all night? A dramatical comical farcical tragical play about power, love, laughter and death, set in a medieval kitchen."
Rebeck was a Pulitzer Prize finalist as the co-author of Omnium Gatherum. Her plays also include Dead Accounts, Bad Dates, The Scene and The Understudy and more. She has also authored the feature films "Harriet the Spy" and "Gossip," and earned a Peabody Award for "NYPD Blue." She was the creator of the recent NBC musical series "Smash."
The Alley has previously presented Rebeck's Bad Dates, The Scene, Mauritius and What We're Up Against.
