Roundabout Theatre Company celebrates the official opening of Theresa Rebeck's new play Bernhardt/Hamlet September 25 at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway. The world premiere, which began previews August 31, stars Tony and Olivier Award winner Janet McTeer as trailblazing 19th-century French actor Sarah Bernhardt.
Set against a lavish, late-19th-century production of Hamlet, Rebeck’s new play paints a portrait of a legend, and gives us a behind-the-scenes look at Bernhardt in her historic, make-or-break role.
Moritz von Stuelpnagel directs a cast that also includes Dylan Baker as Constant Coquelin and Jason Butler Harner as Edmond Rostand, along with Tony Carlin as Louis, Matthew Saldivar as Alphonse Mucha, Nick Westrate as Maurice, Ito Aghayere as Rosamond, Brittany Bradford as Lysette, Aaron Costa Ganis as Raoul, and Triney Sandoval as Francois.
The creative team includes Beowulf Boritt (set design), Toni-Leslie James (costume design), Bradley King (lighting design), and Fitz Patton (original music and sound design).
