Forbidden Broadway Summer Shock!, which takes on some of Broadway's newest hits, begins July 5 at the Douglas Fairbanks Theatre. The latest version of Gerard Alessandrini's musical revue will feature parodies of Wicked, Assassins, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Lion King, Avenue Q, Hairspray and spoofs of such theatre personalities as Tony winners Hugh Jackman and Idina Menzel. Simard joins a cast that includes David Benoit, Valerie Fagan and Michael West. The creative team comprises Bradley Kay and Megan Halpern (set design), Alvin Colt (costume design), Marc Janowitz (lighting design) and Phill George (co-director).
Forbidden Broadway Summer Shock! will run through Sept. 15. During this period, creator Alessandrini will also be working on a brand-new version of Forbidden Broadway that will debut in the fall.
In addition to The Thing About Men, Jennifer Simard also starred Off-Broadway in the original cast of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, earning a Drama Desk nomination for that performance. She was seen in the films "Wish You Were Dead" and "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas," and her recordings include "Sondheim at the Movies," "Unsung Musicals III," "The Best of Off-Broadway" and "A Christmas Survival Guide."
