A.S.K. Theatre Projects and Theatre League Alliance of Southern California have announced that the third annual "Kid's Week at the Theatre" is scheduled for April 30-May 7, 2000. For eight days participating theatres throughout L.A. County will offer free tickets, backstage tours, open rehearsals, and hands-on workshops for children under 18.
The promotion originated as part of a national movement that started in New York ("Kid's Night on Broadway"). But in L.A., A.S.K. Theatre Project and Theatre L.A. expanded on the concept, creating a unique collaboration among both large and small theatres county-wide. At last year's event, kids were given up to two free tickets with the purchase of one adult ticket to 25 different plays, and they were also treated to a host of workshops, open houses, and full theatrical productions created especially for Kid's Week. The L.A. Public Library came on board as a partner, distributing schedules at all 68 branches and providing linked reading lists.
This year's event is supported in part by a grant from the California Community Foundation.
