While Jesus Christ Superstar was generally crucified by critics uptown, a downtown revival treating the same subject matter was doing well enough to transfer to a different theatre. The Third Eye Repertory production of Stephen Schwartz's Godspell will rise again, so to speak, July 18 at the Theatre at Saint Peter's Church. An official opening is set for Aug. 2.
Third Eye Rep's Shawn Rozsa directs Shoshana Bean, Tim Cain, Catherine Carpenter, Will Erat, Barrett Foa, Lucia Giannetta, Capathia Jenkins (The Civil War), Chad Kimball, Leslie Kritzer and Eliseo Roman.
Designing the production are Broadway's William Ivey Long (costumes), Kevin Lock (sets) and Herrick Goldman (lighting).
