News Third Finalist Eliminated from "American Idol" Competition; Carrie Underwood to Perform Next Week On the March 28 broadcast of Fox's "American Idol," the third of the season's 10 finalists was eliminated from the singing competition.

Devin Velez was eliminated after he received the fewest votes among the finalists. From Chicago, IL, the 18-year-old Velez sang "The Tracks of My Tears" by The Miracles on the March 27 "Detroit: Music Of Motor City"-themed performance show. The four judges were unable to come to a unanimous decision to use the once-a-season save for the young singer.

On April 3 at 8 PM ET the seven remaining finalists will perform; the theme for the evening is "Classic Rock, No Ballads."

The April 4 results show, which also begins at 8 PM ET, will feature performances by six-time Grammy Award-winning artist and Season Four winner Carrie Underwood (“See You Again”) and Season Nine finalist Casey James (“The Good Life").

Those currently competing for the "American Idol" crown include Lazaro Arbos, Janelle Arthur, Candice Glover, Kree Harrison, Amber Holcomb, Angie Miller and Burnell Taylor.

Former "American Idol" contestants who have taken to Broadway after their stint on "Idol" include Fantasia Barrino (The Color Purple), Clay Aiken (Spamalot), Constantine Maroulis (Rock of Ages), Diana DeGarmo (Hairspray), Frenchie Davis (Rent) and Jordin Sparks (In the Heights) as well as former "Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi (Chicago), among others.
