News This Year's "The Voice" Winner Will Be Broadway's Next Pippin Josh Kaufman, who was announced the winner of the sixth season of NBC's "The Voice" in May 2014, will make his Broadway debut in the title role of the Tony Award-winning revival of Pippin, producers announced Sept. 18.

Kaufman will begin performances Nov. 4 for a limited engagement through Jan. 4, 2015. Kyle Dean Massey is currently set to perform the role on Broadway through Nov. 2. 

Carly Hughes, who was most recently seen in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, will begin performances Sept. 19 as Broadway's newest Leading Player. Ciara Renee played her final performance Sept. 14 at the Music Box Theatre, and in the interim, Bring it On and Motown actress Ariana DeBose starred.

Tony Award winner Andrea Martin's limited engagement as Berthe will end Sept. 21. 

Pippin is directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus and features choreography by Tony Award nominee Chet Walker in the style of Bob Fosse and circus creation by Gypsy Snider of the Montreal-based circus company Les 7 doigts de la main (7 Fingers).

The Broadway cast is currently headed by Massey as Pippin, Tony Award nominee Charlotte d'Amboise as Fastrada, John Dossett as Charles, Rachel Bay Jones as Catherine and Tony Award winner Martin as Berthe. Other members of the company include Mike Schwitter, Eli Tokash, Ashton Woerz, Mackenzie Bell, Colin Cunliffe, Ariana DeBose, Andrew Fitch, Orion Griffiths, Lauren Joy Herley, Naël Jammal, Nicolas Jelmoni, Sam Lips, Richard Maguire, Brad Musgrove, Charlotte O’Sullivan, Adam Roberts, Masha Terentieva, Kristen Beth Williams and Lara Seibert Young.

Pippin is the recipient of 2013 Tony Awards for Best Revival of a Musical, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical (Patina Miller), Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical (Martin) and Best Direction of a Musical (Paulus).

With a book by Roger Hirson and music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, Pippin features music supervision and arrangements by Nadia DiGiallonardo, orchestrations by Tony Award winner Larry Hochman, scenic design by Tony Award winner Scott Pask, costume design by Tony Award nominee Dominique Lemieux, lighting design by Tony Award winner Kenneth Posner, sound design by Tony Award nominees Jonathan Deans and Garth Helm.

Pippin, according to press notes, "tells the story of a young prince on a death-defying journey to find meaning in his existence. Will he choose a happy but simple life? Or will he risk everything for a singular flash of glory?"

The national tour of Pippin, starring Sasha Allen ("The Voice"), launched Sept. 6 in Denver at the Buell Theatre.
