Goodspeed Musicals has announced the six shows set for the 2017 season. The line-up includes the Tony-winning musical comedy Thoroughly Modern Millie; the first-ever Goodspeed staging of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!; and a new adaptation of Rags.
The season will launch with Richard Morris, Dick Scanlan and Jeanine Tesori’s Thoroughly Modern Millie, set to play April 21-July 2, 2017, on The Goodspeed stage in East Haddam, Connecticut. Set in the fast-paced 1920’s, a girl from Kansas moves to New York City to marry a rich man. There, she gets a taste of the flapper life, makes friends and find unexpected romance. The stage musical is adapted from the 1967 film.
Also slated for The Goodspeed stage will be Oklahoma! with original choreography by Agnes deMille (July 14-September 28); and a new take on Rags, Joseph Stein, Charles Strouse and Stephen Schwartz’s sweeping musical story of an immigrant family in New York City (October 6-December 10).
Nearby at The Terris Theatre in Chester, Connecticut, Goodspeed will stage Zack Zadek’s new musical comedy Deathless (June 2-July 2); followed by Daniel Zaitchik’s Darling Grenadine, a show that blends classic MGM musicals with a touch of romantic comedy (August 18-September 17); and A Connecticut Christmas Carol, a new adaptation of the Dickens holiday classic (November 17-December 24).
