News   Three Sisters Inspires Musical, Heartland; Seeds Are Sown in Dallas Jan. 16-25 The Susan H. Schulman-directed Heartland, the new book musical based loosely on Chekhov's Three Sisters, is the first show of 2004 for the Broadway Contemporary Series in Dallas. Peformances begin Jan. 16.

Presented by Dallas Summer Musicals, the staging of the musical with book and lyrics by Darrah Cloud and music by Kim D. Sherman is produced by Producers Four, Madison Repertory Theatre and Dallas Summer Musicals. It plays the Majestic Theatre in Dallas Jan. 16-25, following a November-December 2003 run at Madison Rep in Wisconsin. There are hopes for a commercial future.

According the press notes, "Heartland explores the inner lives of three Midwestern sisters, who return to their childhood home in Iowa when they learn their mother is planning to sell the family farm."

Playing the sisters are Florence Lacey (Evita, The Grand Tour) as Kathleen, Jacquelyn Piro (Les Miserables) as Sara, and Caroline McMahon (My Life With Albertine) as Becca. Also featured in the musical are Jenn Colella (Urban Cowboy), Tad Ingram (Lincoln Center's The Most Happy Fella), J. Robert Spencer and Lisa Datz (The Full Monty). Musical director is Larry Yurman, and choreographer is Michael Lichtefeld.

Director Schulman's credits include Broadway's The Sound of Music, The Secret Garden and Off Broadway's Violet. She is also attached to the Broadway-bound musical, Little Women.
