Three-time Tony nominee Andy Karl, most recently on Broadway as Phil Connors in the musical adaptation of Groundhog Day, will play Oregon State Trooper Sam King in the new ABC drama Staties, according to Deadline.

In the new series NYPD detective Eliza Cortez is shipped to a new post in Oregon after she makes a high-profile error. King is her veteran, if quirky, partner.

The series is executive-produced by Michael Seitzman and Christina Davis, via their Maniac Productions, and directed by Rob Bowman.

Karl earned a Tony nomination for Groundhog Day in addition to his 2015 nomination for On the Twentieth Century and 2014 nomination for leading Broadway’s Rocky. He won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical for Groundhog Day and the Olivier Award for the pre-Broadway London production of the show. Karl has also appeared on Broadway in Saturday Night Fever, Wicked, Jersey Boys, The Wedding Singer, Legally Blonde The Musical, 9 to 5, and The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
