Next Wave theatrical highlights include Michael Sturminger's The Infernal Comedy: Confessions of a serial killer, which will run Nov. 17-19 in the Gilman Opera House. Described as a "stage play for one actor, a chamber orchestra, and two sopranos," the production will feature Academy Award nominee John Malkovich as Unterweger, who embarks on a post-mortem book tour to promote his memoir. The piece debuted in Los Angeles in 2008.

Academy Award nominee John Hurt will star in the Gate Theatre production of Samuel Beckett's Krapp's Last Tape, which will run Dec. 6-18 in the Harvey Theatre. Michael Colgan will direct the acclaimed production of the one-act tragedy about a 69-year-old writer, who revisits his past by listening to a birthday tape recording made by his 39-year-old self.

Also planned is a production of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's The Threepenny Opera, conceived and directed by Robert Wilson. The Berliner Ensemble will inhabit the dark satire that will run Oct. 4-8 in the Gilman Opera House.

Kuwait-born writer, director and performer Sulayman Al-Bassam will present the U.S. premiere of his work The Speaker’s Progress, about theatrical censorship in the Arab world, Oct. 6-8 in the Harvey Theatre.

Dutch director Ivo van Hove and the Toneelgroep Amsterdam, which has presented John Cassavetes' Husbands and Opening Night for New York audiences in recent years, will return to BAM with a stage adaptation of Ingmar Bergman's film about grief and morality, Cries and Whispers, which will run Oct. 25-29 in the Harvey.  The New York-based puppet theatre ensemble Phantom Limb  will offer a multimedia look at Sir Ernest Shackleton’s harrowing 1914 trans-Antarctic expedition in 69°S., which will run Nov. 2-5 in the Harvey Theatre. Sophie Hunter will direct the piece, which uses three and four-foot-tall puppets, video, photography and live music to tell the tale of survival.
