Spring Awakening, inspired by the expressionist drama by Frank Wedekind, begins previews 8 PM Nov. 16 at the Eugene O'Neill Theater, 230 W. 49th St. Opening night will be Dec. 10 at 6:30 PM.
Nov. 17 was first announced as the start date. That has changed by one day. The performance schedule will be as follows: Monday and Wednesday-Friday at 8 PM, Saturday at 2 & 8 PM, Sunday 2 & 7 PM. During Thanksgiving week there will be a special performance Nov. 21 at 8 PM (no Wednesday performance).
Tickets will be available through Telecharge (212) 239-6200 and there will be day-of-performance student rush tickets.
(There is no official word yet if the Broadway staging will, like the Off-Broadway run at the Atlantic Theater Company, put some theatregoers on stage, flanking the action of the turbulent domestic drama, which has "community" as a major theme.)
Returning in the roles they created Off-Broadway is the entire youth ensemble: Skylar Astin (Georg), Lilli Cooper (Martha), John Gallagher Jr. (Moritz), Gideon Glick (Ernst), Jonathan Groff (Melchior), Brian Johnson (Otto), Lea Michele (Wendla), Lauren Pritchard (Ilse), Phoebe Strole (Anna), Jonathan B. Wright (Hanschen) and Remy Zaken (Thea). Michael Mayer (three-time Drama Desk Award winner for his stagings of A View from the Bridge, Side Man and Thoroughly Modern Millie) again directs.
The producing team for Spring Awakening is Ira Pittelman, Tom Hulce, Jeffrey Richards & Jerry Frankel.
