After five years of retirement, former Beatle John Lennon dreams of touring again in One Night Only, a world premiere play with music, opening Sept. 21 for a run through Oct. 19 at Los Angeles’ Stella Adler Theatre. Actor-musician Tim Piper stars as Lennon with his band "Working Class Hero" in the supporting roles.
Piper, who recently sang the part of Lennon on NBC’s "In His Life: The John Lennon Story," plays the Liverpudlian rock ‘n’ roll legend at the end of his life. One Night Only’s Lennon plays the show as an intimate concert, a test to see if he’s ready to go back on tour as a solo act. Little does he know, he will be shot dead in three months from the date on which One Night Only takes place.
Stephen A. Roberts wrote and directs One Night Only. Designing the show are Christian Struzan (sets), Lee Harry (multi-media, sound), Steve Zelenka (additional sound) and Tim Stratton (lighting).
Tickets are $25. The Stella Adler Theater is located at 6773 Hollywood Boulevard. For reservations, call (866) 468-3399. One Night Only is on the web at http://www.onenightonly.net.
