Titanic Chamber Revival Will Sail to Los Angeles | Playbill

News Titanic Chamber Revival Will Sail to Los Angeles A revival of the 1997 Tony-winning musical Titanic will embark on a national tour which will play the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles in 2016.

This revival will be produced by Paul Elliott, Michael Harrison and David Mirvish. Mirvish was part of a team that announced plans for a Broadway revival in 2014 that would commence a tryout in Toronto. The production was postponed in May of that year due to a lack of a suitable Broadway theatre as a landing place.

Last fall, producers announced plans to resurrect the Toronto revival in spring-summer 2015, though there was no mention of a future Broadway life.

Both that production and the one coming to the Ahmanson will be directed by Thom Southerland, based on the acclaimed chamber production of the musical that played London's Southwark Playhouse in 2013.

Titanic is one of four national tours of Tony-winning musicals that will be presented on Center Theatre Group's 2015-2016 subscription season, the others being The Sound of Music, The Bridges of Madison County and A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder.

The Sound of Music – Sept. 20-Oct. 31. This new revival of the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein classic will be directed by Jack O'Brien and choreographed by Danny Mefford. The Bridges of Madison County – Dec. 8, 2015 - Jan. 17, 2016. The romantic Jason Robert Brown/Marsha Norman musical, based on the best seller of the same title, won 2014 Tonys for Best Score and Best Orchestrations. Composer Brown will conduct the entire L.A. engagement, directed by Bartlett Sher.

A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder – March 22-May 1. Tony-winning director Darko Tresnjak will recreate his Broadway staging for this tour of 2014's Tony winner as Best Musical by Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak.

Titanic – May 14-June 26. Tim Southerland directs a revival of the 1997 Best Musical Tony Award winner by Maury Yeston and Peter Stone. No potential Broadway dates or theatre were announced.
