Variety reports that Winslet — Oscar-nominated for her performances in "Sense and Sensibility," "Titanic" and "Iris" — will star in Liv Ullman's motion picture. Ullman said that Cate Blanchett had been her original choice, but Blanchett did not want to commit to the production because she is pregnant. Principal photography is expected to begin in January 2005, and the cast will also include John Cusack, Stellan Skarsgard and Tim Roth. "A Doll's House" is being produced by the Norwegian company Dinamo Story.
A Doll's House was most recently on Broadway in 1997 at the Belasco Theatre. Directed by Anthony Page, the drama starred Janet McTeer as Nora and Owen Teale as Torvald Helmer. Page, McTeer and Teale all won Tony Awards for their work, and the production was named Best Revival of a Play.
