Actor-lyricist Scott Burkell, a Broadway Titanic ensemble member and regional performer, will sing his songs with composer-pianist Paul Loesel in a cabaret show called "Love Songs and Other Crap," 9 PM Jan. 11 and Jan. 18, 1999 New York City's Don't Tell Mama.
The collaborators have collected a number of songs over the years, some heard at the professional Barn Theatre in Augusta, MI, where Burkell was a favorite summer-season actor and Loesel was music director for several years.
Their musical, Six of One, had a reading in New York in fall 1998 with Ragtime's Marin Mazzie and others. It is still in development, according to Loesel, who said a demo was made in late 1998.
"Love Songs and Other Crap" will include some material from the musical but will mostly offer stand-alone pieces suitable for cabaret, Loesel said.
Loesel will play piano, Burkell will sing. Tickets are $10 with a two drink minimum. Don't Tell Mama, one of the city's cabaret institutions, is at 343 W. 46th St. Call (212) 757-0788.
