Film & TV News   TNT’s Will, About a Young William Shakespeare, Canceled After First Season

Laurie Davidson stars as Shakespeare.

The new TV series Will, about the life of a young William Shakespeare, has been canceled, according to Deadline. The program debuted July 10 on TNT; view the trailer above.

Laurie Davidson stars as the young William Shakespeare after his arrival to London in 1589, when theatre gave him a rock-and-roll-esque notoriety.

Will, which features a rock music soundtrack, debuted to 633,000 total viewers; subsequent episodes dropped to roughly 300,000.

The series recently sponsored an Elizabethan market, including music and performances, outside the Public Theater's Delacorte Theater in Central Park during the controversial presentation of the Bard's Julius Caesar.

Created by Craig Pearce, the cast also includes Olivia DeJonge, Jamie Campbell Bower, Mattias Inwood, Ewen Bremner, Colm Meaney, William Houston, Lukas Rolfe, Max Bennett, and Jasmin Savoy Brown.
